Week 2 prewrap
Mar 23, 2012, 6:57 am

This week's game of the week features third year captain John Hauf's Giants against second year captain Scott Sulzer's Indians. After a rough weekend for the Giants, and a split for the Indians, their game should be a good metric for each team to gauge itself and figure out their expectations for the rest of the year.

"Second year as a captain means focusing more on team morale, camaraderie, enjoying my teammates and the regular season. Winning games and getting to the playoffs come along the way."
--Scott Sulzer, Indians

"I would walk through fire to play softball in this league; it is in my blood."
--Mark Biesman, Indians

"I am thoroughly enjoying the league as a rookie, and I hope our team is in many of the flex games as the summer approaches."
--Daniel Klevanosky

"We will be focusing on the basic softball fundamentals, defense and pitching. Our bats will come around."
--John Hauf, Giants

"I appreciate being expected to perform and this team should have a strong season by the end. I am extremely excited about the league."
--Justin Reed, Giants

"I am enthusiastic about the game of the week and the spotlight."
--Darren Kammer, Giants

We'll see if these teams can match the fire that was in last week's game of the week.

Week 2 approaches
Mar 20, 2012, 1:46 pm

Article of the week, penned by esteemed veteran Larry Silverman:

Ranger Rap

The Rangers started the defense of their title in splendid fashion sweeping a dip at the hands of the Yanks and Cats. In the opener the Gers battled a determined Yank club to a 7-2 rather defensive encounter. The defense was quite stellar including a dazzling grab by Super -Sub Larry "Andy" Williams who song a beautiful tune with the catch and perfect throw to 1B to nab a startled runner. The offense was energized by "Man' of Troy Tennyson who had a double and triple and scored twice and drove in 1. JJ had his usual strong offensive performance plating two on 2 hits and a Sac fly. League newcomer "tiny" Tim Williams was golden at 3b and had a 4/4 day at the plate and driving home 2. Elf chipped in with two hits including a double.

The game of the week featured a barn burner extra inning nail biter with the Rangers eeking out a hard fought 13-12 victory over the Rivercats. The game featured several lead changes and lots of extra base knocks. The Cats were particularly charitable issuing 6 BB's as the Rangers Silver tongued hurler had a clean slate on the free pass ledger. Barry Hersh "y bar" was particularly sweet going 5/5 with a double, 3rbi's and 3 runs scored. JJ was again an RBI machine with 4 more on 3 hits including a two run clout over the RCF wall and possibly one or two more if he had remembered that extra innings are 1 pitch affairs!!! Yes the game went extras after the Cats hit two HR's and scored 4 runs in the bottom 7 to send us into more action. The Gers made 1 run stand up scored on a solo shot by BIG BAD Jason Murray in the top half. Troy kicked in two hits along with BUC Hauck and the Elf man. Sil had two BB's based on his reputation at age 24!!! Rookie Tim Williams was terrific at SS. What a great start!!!

The Schlock Rises
Mar 17, 2012, 9:39 pm

Welcome to another year of the greatest league in the world-a plethora of stellar plays in the field, powerful offensive firepower, and sparkling displays of smooth leather. The rhetoric is second to none and the boys of summer will talk a great game!!!! The draft was a wild display of horse trading…the wheeler dealers were abundant and each captain did his best to secure that next Pearl that could duplicate the extraordinary success of the prior year champs. We welcomed back “ETphone home” Tann who as usual drafted a fine club in his return to duty.  Newly Captained “Door” Matt Roth got his feet wet in his inaugural spring league draft….luckily for him, he was following in very small footsteps and easily out distanced his father’s special draft day style. Kyle Casper “the not so friendly drafter”in his second tilt picked up a team based on the might makes right concept and looks to have created a potential monster. One major upset that occurred in the draft is that “Elton” John Unell made all his picks without a pass-perhaps the apocalypse is gaining momentum. I hope all of you have a terrific season, have fun, and allow the Rangers to skate again.

Without further ado, I am presenting my more formal predictions with the usual caveat that these are not to be used against me or any of my teammates. They are for fun and amusement only and are probably rather inaccurate-so please no grief. Check them out here.
