Jays/ Pirates GOW & Free Food courtesy of Corner Bakery
May 29, 2013, 4:13 pm
The Jays of David Buhrow and my Pirates are developing a good
rivalry even during David's first year as a springtime captain.

In our 1st encounter this year, we managed to squeak out a 6-5 victory.

In our 2nd game, the Jays won 13-10 with a lot of tension in our final
at-bat. We had 2 outs and runners at 2nd and 3rd with our clean-up hitter,
Dan Feldman, coming to bat. Dan hit a line shot that appeared to be
heading for the fences, and LCF Sam Struthers came from out of nowheres
to grab the ball as it almost touched the ground, and that was the
final out.

The Pirates are out to redeem themselves and, although David is a fine
young man, nothing must deter our desire to destroy his team on Sunday
in the rubber game of our 3 game series.

SKIPPER BOB"Definitely looking forward to the GOW…but isn’t there a height requirement for the league? I mean with Mitch…Cody…Brandon…Rick and Skipper Bob the team couldn’t ride any rides at 6 Flags…and with Darren “thank goodness for the a hurricane wind behind my home run” Kammer pitching it should be a pretty easy and convincing win for the Baby Jays" -Sean Greeley
Finally, the Baby Jays get a GOW under the bright lights on field 1 and it's our divisional rubber match with the unpredictable Pirates.  The fans are really going to get what they pay for in this one.  It's tough to prepare when you're not sure which Pirates squad we'll face--they have more subs than the Russian Navy. The Jays--we have deep depth.  I'm hoping the Peg Legs will be looking past us in their quest to win out and salvage their season; we'll send them back to Davy Jones' Locker.  May the best team win!  -Kelly Alexander
"I know we're playing the butt pirates, but we're going to coming at their faces hard! Rock HARD!" - Chis Bichler
"The game of the week is a great tradition in our league and as a player I have always looked forward to the extra prestige and pressure it brings.  This will be my first GOW as a Captain and I am truly honored to have a chance to beat the legend himself Skipper Bob."  - Baby J
Please let your players (and their families Know) that there will be 400+ mini muffins/ bundt bites and lemonade/ coffee available at 11 AM at GOW Plus free coupons passed out. Thank you Edward Jamison and Corner Bakery,

GOW Royals/ Indians
May 18, 2013, 3:34 pm
I am really looking forward to playing in the game of the week with my dad this year. I started coming to these games as a bat boy in the early 90's for his teams when he managed and now that we are playing on the same team is special to me and I know it means a lot to him.
-     David Shaw

Having the GOW after an off week is nice because we are all hungry to get back out there and start to turn this season around. If the bats show up like they did in our first meeting, it's sure to be an exciting game. I think the defenses will determine who wins this one.

-        Justin Toone

Maybe my wife will come to this game...

-    Joel Cerefice

When I look at the Indians roster:  I've never heard of half of these guys, and the ones I do know are way past their prime.  Most of these guys never had a prime!

-     Brad Earls

This year I decided to take a page directly from the John Unell book of How to make it to the TSSL Championship Series with the Worst Regular Season Record!  Anyone who is familiar with our team, knows that the Royals have been devastated by injuries this year.  However, the tide is turning.  We are in the process of identifying talented permanent subs for multiple, critical position players.  "The team that the rest of the league played during the first seven weeks will not resemble the team that is playing in July" (that's a direct quote from page 52 of John's book).  And the Indians will bear witness to the beginning of that metamorphisis this Sunday in the Game of the Week!

-    Larry Lachman

"The Tribe feels honored to be playing in this season's eighth Game of the Week. These two teams know each other well by now, so there shouldn't be any surprises. By the way, they still bring bagels out for this thing, right? I was told there will be bagels." - Jeff Lewin

"There's been a lot going on, back and forth, between these two teams. We are going out ready to prove something.  So get your "POPCORN READY"!!! - Patrick Sanchez

"It is a great honor to be the in the Game of the Week against a fierce competitor in Larry. However, this is a big game for us as we would win both tie breakers within our division" -Scott

T S Tournament team takes title in 4 close games!
May 18, 2013, 3:31 pm

The TS tournament team (Lynx) took the title in some very competitive games today. The 1st 2 games, for seeding, were into the wind on field 4. The team could not score until the bottom of the 6th evening the game at 2. The Lynx won it in the bottom of the 7th.

Game 2 was a 7-2 victory. This earned the team the 1 seed in the 6 team tournament.

Game 3, on field 1, was a quick 12-2 lead after 3 innings. The other team rallied within 12-10 through4, took a 14-12 lead after 4 1/2 but the League team rallied with 10 runs and won 22-15.

The championship game again started fairly well for the Lynx with a 6-3 lead after 3. The visitors scored 8 in the 4th forcing Shalom to rally with time winding downtrailing 11-6. The bottom half of the line up made no outs, tied the score and after batting around had the lead 15-11. Austin ranch rallied within 15-14 but time lapsed and Shalom league had its 2nd championship.

All the players contributed significantly: thanks to Scott Lawrence, Brian Ortega, John Banta, Randy Ransom, Andrew Williams, Kevin Hancock, Sam Struthers, Justin Reed, Tony Martin, Aaron Weintraub, Kyle Casper, Greg Hurst; especially for accomplishing the main mission, which is to represent our league well.

GOW Muckdogs/ Scrappers
May 2, 2013, 12:58 pm

"Any time I get to share the field with a Shalom star like Aaron Nutt, it is an honor.  The fact that it is in the Game of the Week just makes it even more special.  I just hope my team can focus on getting a win and not be awed by his amazing range in the field"  JJ Eusay

“As a kid, I idolized Murray London, the way he could hit the ball wherever he wanted to,  and now to get a chance to play on the same field as Murray, much less in the GOW is a real pleasure.  Still to this day I see people wearing London Olympics t-shirts, which always makes me think of the fine athletic prowess of Murray and Brad London.  Plus with this being the final game of Phillip Kim’s legendary TSS career before he moves to California, it’s only fitting this game is the GOW.”   Larry Goldstein

“What a great new twist to TSS!  Having been gone two years, this is a great way to keep the brotherhood part of the league better than ever” Ira Bershad

“I am so excited to play in the game of the week, I am even going to shave.”   Ki Bays

Scrappers will play the Game of the Week this week vs Goldstein's Muckdogs and it should be some interesting ball.  The Scrappers have been in a slump but it isn't without fighting.  They are ready for a win or two or three or four.  The Scrappers have been dealing with more subs this year than normal and the consistency isn't there.  All team members have been giving their all each and every game and we seem to come up short each game for various reasons.

Each of the Scrappers have been talked to about the game of the week and the consensus is we are ready to get out there and show our stuff.  We all feel we are due and are ready to give it all we got.  The excitement of being on Field 1 with the speakers and the fans cheering us on will show the home team always has a favorable advantage.  GO SCRAPPERS!!
