Game of the Week Week 7

Game of the Week- Week 7

Silverman’s Rangers (10-3) @ Miller’s Mariners (8-5)

Field 5-11:30 AM

This week’s Game of the Week will see the 1st place Rangers visit the Mariners in a division battle. The Mariners took 2 out of 3 last week and look to move up in the standings and gain ground on the Rangers. The last time these two met on opening week, the Rangers escaped with a 1 run victory after a 3 run rally in the bottom of the last inning. Miller is hoping this time is different.

We are led by the potent 1-2 punch of Ryan Driggers and Thomas Kulcak. The secret to the team’s success this season has been good production throughout the lineup as 10 of the 12 players are carrying on base averages over 500. This has been crucial as the Mariners are the third highest scoring team in the league. Having won 2 out of 3 last week batting into the wind, the Mariners look forward to being able to use their power this week and close the 1 game gap in the standings behind the Rangers.

We know the gamey Silverman will have his team prepared for the matchup. Many can’t figure out how the Rangers continue to win at the pace they have. But Coach Sil thinks he re shuffled lineup and secret pitching weapon will give them a great chance to get the win.

Ranger's are playing a week 1 rematch with the fiesty 8-5 Mariner's who are nipping at our heels. They have a strong squad with 2 stud 1st round picks who hit for power and average and also are excellent fielders.  They have many good sticks in addition including Crouse, Batagower, Osgood et al.  Their defense is solid and pitcher extremely crafty.  We will have to score many runs to keep the pace with them. While climbing to a 10-3 record, the Gers have had contributions from many different directions-most of our games have been close and down to the wire-two extra inning games and two walk offs.  We tend to keep the competition close but do know how to win.  We go two deep in pitching and the hot hand lately has been Barry Epstein who has gone 6-1.  Kyle Casper has been very strong on both D and O-a very pleasant surprise for a 7th round pick.  Since moving Weddy to the 3 hole and putting Shorty at lead-off the team offense has come alive.  JP has been incredible at the dish all year long and plays a very solid SS.  The OF has been strong if not spectacular.  We will have to play good D and continue our offensive ways to come out on top against those M's.  We look forward to a well fought game with hopes of coming out on top.

Week 6 Game of the Week

Williams’ Diamondbacks at Garber’s Grasshoppers

11:30 am Field 4

This week’s Game of the Week matchup will be a cross division match-up between two teams battling for their respective division titles. The Hoppers come in to the weekend hot off of a sweep after dropping two the weekend before. They will look to stay hot against a Dbacks team that has won 5 of their last 6 despite missing the big stick of their captain who has been nursing a sore hammy. In true form for this season, Captain Williams has been MIA and was not made available by the club for comment. However, Garber did have some words about the upcoming matchup.

“We are surprised and honored to be playing in the game of the week again.  It is like ESPN is giving us the Yankees – Red Sox treatment.  We are looking forward to matching up with the Diamondbacks and their semi-retired captain, Andrew Williams.  Everyone always expects Kid to have a top team and I thought he shrewdly cemented that by getting a very high pick in each of the first three rounds of the draft.  Peter Hogan was the steal of the draft until his unfortunate injury – most unfortunate is that he still talks trash, even while he is on the injured list.  Andrew has a balanced club, with a strong pitcher, a good lineup and steady defense.   He is a true five tool player: he produces the podcast, writes the music, loads the graphics, runs the mixer, and wrote the best captain’s corner this season – flip back to DBacks Rattle On, April 2.  Swing by field 4 at 11:30 to see the Game of the Week!”

This one is sure to be a barn burner and will surely beg to questions will Williams be present or not.
