Brian Conn's Tigers win the title over Matt Roth's Indians in 2 tight games
Aug 28, 2016, 10:40 am

On a beautiful day, with a wonderful crowd in attendance, the Tigers and Indians played a Championship Series worth watching. After intros and first pitch honors including Bob Weinfeld, Jack Borenstein, Larry Farin, Larry Silverman, Paul Rakofsky, Justin Reed, John Hauf, Henry Sack, Abbey Garber, Brian Strull and Michael Barth, the Indians jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the 3rd inning of game 1. The Tigers chipped away and trailed 7-6 after 4 innings. The Indians pushed it to 9-6 but the Tigers trimmed it to 9-8 and tied it at 9-9 in the home 6th. The 7th saw the Indians unable to score and the Tigers capitalized with a leadoff single from Rob Shiller. Following a flyout moving Rob to 2nd, Matt Rakofsky was walked intentionally where upon Kelly Alexander (MVP) won the game with a single to right center.

Game 2 witnessed the Indians scoring 1 in the home 1st and 2nd and keep the 2 run lead until the 4th. Kelly Alexander homered in the top of the 4th to cut the lead to 1. In the top of the 6th, all with 2 outs, successive singles from Shiller, Mark Phares and Matt Rakofsky tied the game at 2. On a 2-2 pitch, Alexander then homered again over the fence for the 5-2 lead. The Tigers would tack on 3 in the 7th for an 8-2 win although the game itself was much closer than the final score.

Both teams played well overall. The Indians had strong contributions from Jeremy Pease, JT Pierce, Tony Martin, Nick Milton, John Banta pitching, Matt Roth and Jay Swank. The Tigers, led by Alexander's MVP performance also had strong contributions from Paul and Matt Rakofsky, Co captain Scott Sulzer, Shiller, Phares, Joel Cerefice, Joel Gilhang, Daniel Buhrow, Jerry Rogers, Alan London, and Greg Winn. Congratulations Brian Conn  and the Tigers.
