Week 8 Double Header of the Week!

Week 8 Games of the Week

Niswonger’s Lugnuts vs. Samsel’s Railriders

11:30/12:40 Field 2

This week’s Game of the Week is actually a double dip. The league will be featuring head to head divisional double headers this weekend and many of those matchups carry heavy playoff implications. This contest is no exception, with the two teams being separated by only 1 game in the standings. The Lugnuts have earned their top division ranking with some monster offensive production and great timely defense along with solid pitching. White the Nuts are the top run scoring team in the division, the Railriders are tops in least runs allowed. Their defense has been their key to success but it is backed by third highest run producing offense in the division. This double dip should be a great one to watch for sure. Captain Niswonger is coaching in his first game of the week and he is confident in his group.

“The Lugnuts are honored to be selected as game of the week.  For this write up I will be taking a page out of our opponents play book and telling it like it is with zero arrogance or bravado.

The Nuts are hands down the greatest team that has ever been assembled, LETS GO!  Highest team batting average, LETS GO!  5 players with Homeruns, and yes our 1 has not hit a homerun because he does not have to, LETS GO!  Our last pick in The draft is hitting .477, LETS GO!  We have the two fastest guys in the league playing LCF and RCF, shut it down, LETS GO! We have Paul Bunion, LETS GO!  Our Nutt’s love to touch 2 in the middle, LETS GO!  Just 4 losses that combine for a total of only 9 runs, 5 of those came in one fluke game, LETS GO!  Scored the most runs in our division, LETS GO!  We appreciate our trash cans and show them the respect they deserve, LETS GO!

Rail riders post this on your bulletin board.  It won’t matter you don’t have a prayer, LETS GO!”

Wow! Some brash words from a rookie captain with no skins on the wall huh? Samsel took the more humble road (Imagine that!) when addressing the upcoming matchup.

“With 10 games left in the season we are right where we want to be with a chance to earn a bye in the playoffs and win the division. This week's double header against the Lugnuts will go a long way in deciding where both teams end up. They bring the defense and will not give an inch. They are a balanced offensive team. They hit for power and average. They utilize all fields and hit the long ball when needed. I see a lot of similarities in both teams. It's going to be a tough matchup and it should be two close games.

This one is sure to be entertaining for sure and hopefully no trash cans are damaged in the process.

Ranger Rap

The Ger's split a pair on Sunday. In GOW, The Gers had to score and often to out last a strong M's squad.  In the end they prevailed 18-15.  JP as usual helped carry the Offense load with 3 ribs a 2B and 3B to boot. Shorty had 2 more doubles and continued to ignite the offense.  The Weds did his thing with 3 hits a BB and 2 ribs. Sloppy but a W.

Game 2 was a disaster as Haas Bulls decided to take out their seasons frustration on a shell shcoked group of Rangers 21-8. There were a few highlights-especially Gustavos Granny and BDS with 4 hits in the double header, but mostly heart ache.  The Gers look forward to a two game series in two weeks with the Grasshoppers for a chance to sneak into the division lead.

Ranger ruby's:

Weds-2 BB's, 4/5, and two rBI's

JP-4 rbi's, 2B, 3B

Shorty-4 hits, 4RBI's, and 2 2B's

KC-5/7, 2B and 3 RBI's

Pat Sanchez-5 hits

Gus-4/7, HR, and 4RBI's

Game of the Week Week 7
May 4, 2019, 8:31 pm

Game of the Week- Week 7

Silverman’s Rangers (10-3) @ Miller’s Mariners (8-5)

Field 5-11:30 AM

This week’s Game of the Week will see the 1st place Rangers visit the Mariners in a division battle. The Mariners took 2 out of 3 last week and look to move up in the standings and gain ground on the Rangers. The last time these two met on opening week, the Rangers escaped with a 1 run victory after a 3 run rally in the bottom of the last inning. Miller is hoping this time is different.

We are led by the potent 1-2 punch of Ryan Driggers and Thomas Kulcak. The secret to the team’s success this season has been good production throughout the lineup as 10 of the 12 players are carrying on base averages over 500. This has been crucial as the Mariners are the third highest scoring team in the league. Having won 2 out of 3 last week batting into the wind, the Mariners look forward to being able to use their power this week and close the 1 game gap in the standings behind the Rangers.

We know the gamey Silverman will have his team prepared for the matchup. Many can’t figure out how the Rangers continue to win at the pace they have. But Coach Sil thinks he re shuffled lineup and secret pitching weapon will give them a great chance to get the win.

Ranger's are playing a week 1 rematch with the fiesty 8-5 Mariner's who are nipping at our heels. They have a strong squad with 2 stud 1st round picks who hit for power and average and also are excellent fielders.  They have many good sticks in addition including Crouse, Batagower, Osgood et al.  Their defense is solid and pitcher extremely crafty.  We will have to score many runs to keep the pace with them. While climbing to a 10-3 record, the Gers have had contributions from many different directions-most of our games have been close and down to the wire-two extra inning games and two walk offs.  We tend to keep the competition close but do know how to win.  We go two deep in pitching and the hot hand lately has been Barry Epstein who has gone 6-1.  Kyle Casper has been very strong on both D and O-a very pleasant surprise for a 7th round pick.  Since moving Weddy to the 3 hole and putting Shorty at lead-off the team offense has come alive.  JP has been incredible at the dish all year long and plays a very solid SS.  The OF has been strong if not spectacular.  We will have to play good D and continue our offensive ways to come out on top against those M's.  We look forward to a well fought game with hopes of coming out on top.
